Every year under the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA) financial institutions report data on Mortgage Lending. This data is normally shared on Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) website, annually. In 2021, approximately 148,000 pre-approved mortgage loan applications were denied, or the initial approval was not accepted. 38.6% of the denied loans were home purchases (Conventional loans). Although these loans were initially approved, they did not close. Imagine how disappointing this must have been for the families, Sellers, and Realtors.
